In one of his books, John Wooden, hall of fame entrant as both a basketball player and coach, makes the above claim and highlights his willingness to stay true to his values, spend quality time with his family and pursue his virtues. Notably, he always maintained that better people made better players and stated that he was more concerned with character than reputation.
